PostHog (Capture API) - How do I link my account?
Overview
To authenticate with PostHog's Capture API, you need two things:
- Hostname - The domain your capture API requests are sent to.
- Project Token - A public, write-only key (starts with
phc_) used to send events. It doesn't grant access to read any of your data.
This guide will walk you through finding those values within PostHog.
Prerequisites:
- You must set up an account with PostHog.
Step 1: Finding your hostname
Enter the value matching your PostHog setup:
| Setup | Hostname |
|---|---|
| US Cloud | us.i.posthog.com |
| EU Cloud | eu.i.posthog.com |
| Self-hosted | your own PostHog domain |
Step 2: Finding your Project Token
- Go to your project's Settings, then the Settings - General page.
- Copy the value labeled Project token (it starts with
phc_).
Step 3: Enter credentials in the Connect UI
Once you have your Hostname and Project Token:
- Open the form where you need to authenticate with PostHog.
- Enter your Hostname and Project Token in their respective fields.
- Submit the form, and you should be successfully authenticated.
You are now connected to PostHog's Capture API.
